Starting Out

So I am going to play a pretend galaxy to give you an idea of how to do things. In the beginning I quickly colonized and developed my home system. Soon the question of expansion comes up and I send out a scout. Shortly after I begin exploring I find this system.

This system is perfect! How lucky of me, its almost as if I looked around until I found a system that was perfect for me to use as an example! Since this tutorial is on how to make a breeder planet the first question is, which planet should be my breeder planet? I am thinking that the 17 population planet with 4 food, 4 production, and 3 science would be just perfect! Now if only I had 5 colony ships. Hey, look there! There just happens to be 5 colony ships parked at this systems sun. What a happy coincidence! So I guess I will colonize this system real quick. I claim this system for the Uncountednose Empire and I name it “Example”.

Now lets take a look at my designated breeder planet.

What we want to do is build farms on this planet until it makes 12 surplus food with 2 farmers. I have posted a governor in the Governor Example section of this manual that should do the job nicely. You can see this governor by clicking here. I would say that until you have a good understanding of how breeder planets work you should just copy my governor straight over and let it do its thing. There are more efficient ways to set up a breeder planet but this governor will do the job until you reach the point of figuring that out for yourself. So I went ahead and let my governor do its thing and a few turns later my planet has completed its production and is ready to start producing military to be transported to the other planets in this system. I think a good beginning design for a transport ship would be something like this:

Well, now that I have a good design it sure would be nice if two of these ships mysteriously appeared above my planets.

Well look at that! Ask and you shall receive. Now that I have these two ships conveniently placed in my system I need to assign a transport admiral to them. Notice how one is positioned at my breeder planet and the other is positioned at one of the planets that will receive the population? This will make things run much smoother. The transport admiral should look something like this:

Once I assign this admiral to my ships things will start moving right along. Here is a look at how my breeder planet, Example 3, is doing after a couple of turns.

Do you notice that my planet has a surplus of 13 food each turn? Since it only takes 12 food to fill up my Food-Storage Box this means that as long as my two shuttles are removing 1 Stationed Military each turn my breeder planet will add a new citizen every turn. You do not need to worry about that because the governor and the admiral will take care moving your population around automatically each turn. Things are running so smoothly that I think I will go ahead and go to sleep for the night.

Well its the next morning, lets go ahead and take a look at how my new system is doing!

Well that is pretty impressive. There is no way I could have gotten that kind of growth without the use of breeder planets. Now eventually my system is going to fill up, what will I do then? Well it looks like Example 2 has a maximum population of 29 and a base production of 4. I bet if I put a bunch of factories and auto-factories on that planet(along with a shipyard of course) I could build ships fast enough to use all the population that Example 3 can make. If I just change the Admiral I made earlier to where it only transported from Example 3 to Example 2 things would go pretty smoothly I think! I just need to make sure to keep making ships with Example 2 or I might run into problems. Of course if I feel like I am getting overwhelmed with population I could just stop my two “Transporter 1” ships where they are and uncheck the transport rule on my admiral. Then they would not move any population until I am ready. Its a good thing I thought of all this stuff ahead of time. It is good to have an idea about what you are going to do ahead of time.
