The overview screen does precisely that. It gives an overview of your empire.

Population Overview

The Population Overview section gives a graphical representation of your empires entire population. Each type of population (farmer, worker, scientist, and military) will bring up a tool-tip with even more in-depth information. The military section is further subdivided into stationed military (on planets) and crew members (on ships).

Financial Report

This section gives a balance sheet for your empires credit production. Each line is either a credit or a deduction indicated by a yellow or red coin respectively. At the bottom is your empires total credit production or debit per turn.

Empire Overview

This section shows your empires reputation and corruption. Both of these items pop up a tool-tip with more information, when hovering the mouse over them. See Reputation and Corruption for more details.

Ships Statistical Report

Provides an overview of all your empire’s ships. Each number gives a small tool-tip.

  • Unmanned Ship Count: The number of ships insufficiently manned.
  • Light/Heavy/Bombing Firepower: Number in parentheses is the amount of unused firepower due to unmanned ships.
  • Light/Heavy Units: Number in parentheses are the total number of units of all your light/heavy ships without shields. Numbers outside parentheses is the actual effective hitpoints (HP) of your ships, which is units strengthened by shields.

Ships Posing A Threat

This area shows the ships/fleets of other players that you do not have an alliance or peace treaty with. This is almost a synopsis of the Recon Screen and can be read/filtered/sorted in a similar fashion. Whatever ship, fleet, or planet the offending ship/fleet is closest to will also be displayed.

It also shows whether they are moving towards (right facing red arrow) or moving away (left facing gray arrow) from your ship/fleet/planet.

Possible filter options

  • Filter by Fleets Only: Allows you to show/hide fleets only.
  • Filter by Ship Owner: Allows you to show/hide ships of specific players.
  • Filter by Enemies Only: Allows you to show/hide only ships that you are at war with.
  • Filter by Ships moving towards me: Allows you to show/hide ships that are moving towards me.
  • Filter by Ships near one of my planets: Allows you to show/hide ships that are near any of my planets.
  • Filter by Ship that are closer than specific number of units: Allows you to show/hide ships that are closer than a specific number of units.

Highscores

This area displays the overall scores of all the players in the galaxy along with their reputation and rank within the galaxy. The scores and reputation displayed here are used for calculating your score ratio and reputation gained or lost with each significant battle.

There are many things used to calculate a players score in a galaxy. It is balanced in such a way as to try to give an accurate representation of a players overall strength. Score is calculated as follows:

  1. Research- Each item researched requires a certain amount of research points as detailed here. The total amount of research points required to complete a technology is divided by two and added to your overall score once the research on the topic is completed.
  2. Population- Every citizen in your empire(including stationed military and military on ships) counts for 10 points towards your overall score.
  3. Planets- Every planet counts for 5000 points towards your overall score.
  4. Facilities- Every facility built adds the base cost of that facility to your overall score.
  5. Ships- Every ship built adds its build cost to your overall score, whether it is manned or not.
  6. Combat- Every battle you participate in has the potential to add to your overall score as detailed here.
  7. Conquering Planets- Every time you conquer a planet you receive a 1000 point base score which is then modified by your score-ratio. How score-ratio is calculated is described here.
